"What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but do not have works? Can faith save you? If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill,” and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that?" James 2:14-16*

Christianity on the Move

We are United Methodists...
United Methodists are known the world round for our attention to translating the abstract inner worlds of prayer and sacred meditation into the language of the streets. In early industrial England, the followers of Christ taking the name Methodist were a dynamic part of the movement first to educate and then to remove children from the factory labor force. Hospitals were founded and dedicated to serving the poor. We are one of the most powerful examples in Christian history of what can happen when highly educated people of privilege and fervently passionate people of everyday wisdom surrender themselves side by side to follow Christ.

Christians who are part of the United Methodist spiritual legacy continue to serve active roles in responding to natural disasters, combating poverty, and even stimulating local leaders to consider how we could change the structures in society that produce so many impoverished individuals.

We Serve...
The Dryden United Methodist Church has been blessed with marching orders from Jesus and servants who are ready to go. We offer a dinner free of charge to the community four Wednesdays a month. It is estimated that over 2,900 meals were shared last year with those in need of sustenance and a warm friendly space. Our team of volunteers pursues excellence with a sense of humor and camaraderie that is a blessing to many. We were also gifted with a call to address the needs of the community through the sewing of blanket rolls for persons without housing. These quilted bed rolls are supplemented with basic toiletries and provided to shelters in Ithaca and Syracuse to hand out to people living on the streets.

Listening for God's Call...
Although it is a joy to work together on a team to build the kingdom of God, we also listen for the call to be God's instruments in our individual daily lives. The Christians of Dryden United Methodist Church can be found in coffee shops, class rooms, board rooms, and mechanic shops. Everywhere we go, we believe God is already there. There is a role for all of us, we make ourselves available to be used by God to make this earth a little more like Heaven.

We hope you will join us in serving God's wonderful purpose.
